Otto Bremer Trust names Frank M. Miley trustee

SAINT PAUL, February 16, 2023 — The trustees of the Otto Bremer Trust (OBT), Charlotte S. Johnson and Daniel C. Reardon, today announced they have appointed Francis M. Miley to serve as the third trustee, following an exhaustive search process to fill the trustee vacancy.
Also today, the trustees filed a petition asking the Ramsey County District Court to confirm Mr. Miley’s appointment. In the meantime, Mr. Miley has begun his service as a trustee and will devote his efforts full-time starting June 1.
Mr. Miley, a St. Paul native, has thirty years of management and leadership experience in administering nonprofits and working in government service. He is a trained lawyer and teacher and currently serves as the president of Cretin-Derham Hall High School. Previously he was the vice president for strategic planning and administration for what is now the Mitchell Hamline School of Law. Before his work at Mitchell Hamline, he was an assistant Ramsey County attorney charged with overseeing that office’s truancy intervention program. Early in his career, Mr. Miley taught at St. Thomas Academy.
“Mr. Miley’s accomplished career shows he has the judgment, character, and experience that will make him an excellent steward of the perpetual legacy Otto Bremer created nearly 80 years ago,” noted Ms. Johnson of Mr. Miley’s management and leadership talents.
Mr. Reardon added, “Mr. Miley has demonstrated a thorough understanding of fiduciary duties and the ability to plan strategically with positive results. These skills will help ensure that OBT continues to create innovative responses to the complex issues facing communities in our region.”

The three trustees are committed and eager to work together collaboratively to administer the trust prudently, to continue its cutting-edge vision and focus, and to serve the best interests of OBT’s many, and diverse, public beneficiaries.
In the meantime, former trustee S. Brian Lipschultz has the right to petition the Minnesota Supreme Court to review the Court of Appeal’s decision affirming the District Court’s decision removing him. The appointment of Mr. Miley remains subject to Mr. Lipschultz’s appeal rights.
