Common questions about OBT’s upcoming new application process
Beginning in the summer of 2021, the Otto Bremer Trust will implement a new grant application process. We believe this new process will provide a better platform for OBT’s growing philanthropic work in our four-state region. Rest assured, OBT’s commitment to serving communities with our responsive approach will remain paramount.
Here are some common questions you might have about the change in our process.
My organization applied by the December 17 deadline. When will we receive a decision?
Organizations that applied by the December 2020 deadline will receive a decision by May 19, 2021.
When will the new application be available in the portal?
We expect the application to be available this summer. Microsoft Word versions of the application questions will be available in the spring to give you time to collect relevant information before applying.
How long will it take to receive a grant decision once my organization applies?
In our old process, it took about five months from the application deadline to receive a decision. In the new system, we will significantly shorten that timeframe.
Where can I find a list of application deadlines and grant notification dates?
OBT is still determining its application schedule. We will post more information this spring.
Will my program officer change?
Program staff work in broad geographic territories and are not assigned to specific organizations. So, you may or may not be working with the program officer you have worked with in the past.
My organization currently has an open grant. When will we be able to apply again?
If your current grant term ends on or before May 19, 2021, and your final report has been submitted, you will be eligible to apply immediately when the new application is available. If your current grant ends after May 19, please watch the website for additional deadlines, or subscribe to OBT updates.
When the new application launches, will we still have access to our old records?
Yes, you will continue to have access to your previous applications and grants after the new application launches.
My organization has a draft application in the portal. Will we be able to submit it?
No. Applications that were not submitted by the December 2020 deadline will not be accepted. They will be available until March 31, 2021, in case applicants need to access that information.
